Skyscrapers that were once the tallest known to man standing at several hundred feet tall, now barely peaked above the water. Some were engulfed completely. Many divers would often explore the wreckage of the now watery ghost cities. Cars still parked on sidewalks, abandoned street vendors. Some parts of the subway were too deep to enter, but many pictures surfaced of trains, trapped underwater on the tracks, forever.
Earth Before The Floods
There were rumors that the meteor wasn’t actually that, but an alien space craft. Nothing was ever proven, but every once in a while there would be a report on the sky screens about some entity of unknown origins, floating to the surface. The earth now was a modern day venice, with floating cities and hydro-powered ocean skimmers, and Carl worked at an engineering hydroelectric laboratory, with a crew of mad scientists as they jokingly called themselves. Carl didn’t think much of the dreams, and started getting ready for work. His day went on with no unusual incidents.
Shapeshifting Sea Nymph Dominates His Thoughts
That was until the hallucinations started. Carl began seeing floating, glowing creatures walking around the cubicles. The echoing sound of dripping water everywhere he went. Puddles of aqua blue water on the floors that disappeared and reappeared that only he could see. And a woman, transluscent, and floating through the halls, a wet shift clinging to her body, accentuating her curves. He could never see her face, but he could hear the alien wet sounds, like slime being squished, or a snail gliding across the surface.
Hallucinations Clouded His Judgement
Things stopped making sense very quickly after his emotional outburst in the breakroom. Coworkers staring as his boss called him into the office. “I want you to take a break for a few days and see a therapist.” Handing him the card, his boss watched him scoff protesting that he didn’t need a shrink. “I’m fine I’ve just been having trouble sleeping.” His boss wasn’t convinced. “Listen Carl, we just can’t have you here behaving this way, take a break and go see the lady on the card. She can help you.”
Despite His Protest.. Carl Found A Few Days Off To Be Relaxing
He went to see the therapist after she agreed to see him the very next day. When he got to the office – which was in the woman’s home at the Naiad blue, something about the woman struck Carl as curious, but he couldn’t figure out what. Her hair was black, slicked back into a bun. She was wearing a blue satin abaya, cinched at the waist with fabric that draped over the sides. The building her condo was located in, was extremely hard to get into, and considering it was a floating city – an architectural marvel.
The Naiad Blue
Columned caryatids in ecstasy bookended the front doors, and were stationed throughout the building lobby. Some were sirens, with webbed claws and sharp metallic scales covering their fins, that could slice a man to ribbons. Others were of the various Roman Gods, Poseidon, Zeus. And then there were some unique statues, of female water deities that Carl had never seen. There was a deep ocean soundtrack playing in the lobby, the sounds of bubbling underwater, and whale calls echoed off the marbled surface and vaulted ceilings. True to the name, the lobby was decorated with varying ocean blues, and the glass elevators traveled up and down simulated aquarium lined tubes, so it felt like you were moving through water. Carl had never visited the structure, but he passed it often on his way to work on the water rail.
Settling In With The New Therapist
“Tell me why you’re here today, Carl.” He sat on the edge of the ocean swirled blue upholstery, and tried to recall the past days events as best he could. The dreams where he was swimming, and something jelly-like brushed his leg, before something grabbed him and pulled him under. It wasn’t just being pulled under though, it was being pulled deep into the ruins of the old cities, and the strange stinging, burning sensation as something in the water clung to his skin. He could never see what was pulling him down. And then there were the hallucinations at work, which led to him being put on leave. The therapist listened intently, and seemed to be concerned about his long hours at work moreso than his peculiar dreams. “Maybe you need to take a vacation, and I could suggest a place for you that I think would help.”
Nothing Beats A Jet Two Holiday
Carl had acquired 2 weeks vacation and had yet to use them, but with the bosses concerns and the flashbacks of the strange looks he got at work, he decided r&r was what he needed. The therapist recommended a new resort in the Caribbean ocean, off the coast of “New Atlantis” called jet two. He’d seen the flyers and heard the tv ads “nothing beats a jet two holiday” he murmured to himself. He heard a soft chuckle come from the therapist, “catchy jingle isn’t it? I really think you’re going to like it there. I’ve sent several of my clients to the resort, and they all had such a thrilling time there, that they didn’t want to leave!”
Water Spirit Lore
Her smile calmed what had been days of tension, or was it all the blue that decorated her condo? His eyes shifted focus to the painting behind her chair. Oddly enough, a blue serpant woman, who appeared to be half human. “That’s the Goddess Wata. She commands the oceans, many still worship her, especially after the great floods. It is rumored that she was responsible for sending a large ice geode to the planet, which exploded and melted the ice caps as punishment for humans disrespecting the water.”
Carl Found Himself Drawn To Her Story And Fell Into A Trance
“Carl?” Snapping out of his daze, he glanced back to the therapist to find her staring at him with a look of concern. Laughing it off he said, “sorry, guess I zoned, that’s an amazing story!” The Therapist nodded, “and I think you need this vacation more than you’re letting on.” They wrapped up their session, with Carl returning home feeling calm and uplifted after only an hour inside the walls of The Naiad Blue, and ready for a jet two holiday. A day later, Carl found himself boarding a hydro-jet, destined for New Atlantis.
New Atlantis Proved To Be A Welcomed Respite
His suite was a large chrome ocean pod, complete with living room, bedroom, shower and jacuzzi tub, and a private outdoor pool, all stationed over the water. They had many activities, including night diving, submersive pod tours, and a 24 hour buffet of fresh food and a juice bar. Carl took in the sights, and decided to relax on the outer deck of his ocean pod. Watching the sun set over the water, a fiery ball descending into the crystal blue waters. It was nearly dark, when Carl saw the bubbling, rippling commotion in the water at the edge of the deck. Was it a fish? He leaned in, the bubbling intensified until there was a loud splash that sprayed him and the deck.
Carl Meets A Sea Nymph
“Oh… sorry, I usually swim further out, didn’t mean to frighten you..” He blinked, looking down to see the woman wading in front of his pod. “Are you one of the night divers?” he asked dumbly. The woman laughed, “do you see any scuba gear on me?” The flood lights flicked on, and it was then that Carl got a good look at the woman, and suddenly realized, she wasn’t human. Where a human would normally have skin, she had parts of her limbs that were completely transluscent. A blue, jelly like substance that shimmered in the light. Her chocolate eyes, were flecked with unnatural blue and gold. Her hair was a wild black mass of curls, that bounced and swayed even in the water. She did a back flip in the water, and Carl realized she was also naked. No fins, but the same patchy areas of blue jelly-like skin.
The Sea Nymph Of New Atlantis
“The name is Naiia, and I suppose you’re not used to seeing sea nymphs?” Carl’s mouth dropped open. “Y-you’re real???” Just then, there was a bell indicating room service. A uniformed woman entered the suite with a cart and a bottle of champagne. “Good evening Mr. Abrams, compliments of the resort,” she said smiling as she approached him on the deck. Carl glanced at the sea nymph, and then at the steward. “Pardon me for asking a strange question but… can you see her?” he said pointing. The woman glanced at the sea nymph, “oh you’ve met Naiia! She frequents the resort when she’s not off exploring…” Carl thought he’d entered the twilight zone. Sea nymphs weren’t fictional in New Atlantis. The woman explained that New Atlantis was one of the only areas of the planet they appeared, and hinted that they were part of the jet two experience.
Making Naiia’s Acquaintance
After the steward left, Naiia invited herself onto Carl’s deck, splashing in his pool. He was mesmerized by the sight of her, naked and… slightly see-through. Almost as if reading his thoughts, she turned to him, resting her elbows on the pools edge and kicking her feet. “I’m not actually a sea nymph…” she began. “I’m a shapeshifter, but it was easier for people here to believe such, so it stuck… have you gone to see the cities?” Carl blinked, “the cities… you mean underwater? I thought only submersives could go that deep?” Naiia laughed and shook her head. “I can take you, and no harm will come to you, plus, I have something I want to show you.. something no human has ever seen.”
Deep Sea Exploration
Without thinking, Carl nodded yes, realizing he might never get this opportunity again. She climbed out of the pool, skin glistening under the full moon, breasts heaving directly in Carl’s face. In an instant, she waved a hand over her left arm, and began to transform entirely, into the blue creature from his dreams. It was her, just as she had appeared in those dreams, beckoning to him from the deep. A wave of fear struck Carl, and he stared up at her now transluscent blue breasts, awestruck. “It’s… you… you’re that thing- sorry… woman from my dreams.”
The Shapeshifting Water Goddess Revealed
The shapeshifting blue entity took on many forms, but this one in particular he recognized. She smiled, “I’m glad you decided to come, and that you understand now why I called to you. So… are you ready for your tour of the cities?” Holding out her hand, all blue and crystalline, Carl took it, and suddenly found himself being covered by her blue essence. It spread up his arm, over his head and body, and down to his feet. Carl found he could not only still breath, but he felt calm as her blue jellied body covered him, her voice communicating telepathically. “This will prevent the water pressure from crushing you and… allow you to breathe.” In another instant, he found himself floating momentarily skyward, and then plunging into the depths of the ocean.
The Forgotten Cities
Deeper and deeper they plummeted, rather quickly, to the cities surface. What Carl saw through the transparent blue jelly shocked him. Most of the city still intact, but now rusting and covered in algae. He could hear the creaking, moaning sounds of the ocean all around him, amplified by the substance that covered him. Traveling through the lost city, she led him inside a tunnel once underground, now underwater. Carl saw a blue light emmanating from the tunnels end, entering cavern. With another splash, he was above water, and surrounded by rock and strange plants he’d never seen before.
The Great Underground Caverns
Reformed in her half human half blue lady shape, Naiia sat down next to him as he took in the marvel of where he was. “This is amazing,” he exclaimed, “wow, I owe you big time, I would have never seen all of this.” She nodded, “that you do… owe me… that is.” Carl looked over at her, “I don’t know how I’m going to repay all of this, what is it you want?”
“You, Carl… I want you.”
Her form shimmered and shifted over his body without warning. With a shock, Carl found himself being straddled by the blue jellied woman. Her translucent thighs engulfed his head, grinding her fluid sex against his nose and mouth. His shorts dissolved as she wrapped her jelly mouth on him and suctioned. Carl glanced over at her, sitting up. “What do you mean?” he asked.
“I didn’t bring you here, to give you a tour of the city. I brought you here to be a sacrifice to Wata.”
“W-what???? What do you mean sacrifice?? You’re going to take me back right?”
“I’m afraid I can’t do that, Carl. You will be a very fitting sacrifice. One of the best I’ve ever consumed.”
Consumed?! Carl scrambled to his feet just in time to see her shift into the form of his therapist. “Wait…. it’s you you’re the therapist??”
“You suspected nothing, and were very easy prey, Carl. The Naiad Blue stands as a monument to all those who respect the water and worship the Goddess. The resort is simply a place for us to feed.”
The echo of a wet, slithering sound across the cold rock filled his ears. Carl panicked, jumping into the water and attempting to swim through the tunnel, when the water pressure changed. Even if he could get back to the surface, he would only have a few seconds before…
The Fight Or Flight
Kicking and pumping his arms against the crushing pressure of the ocean was futile, Carl managed to get a few feet before he felt something cold grabbing his ankle and lurching him downward. The sensation spreading as the blue entity latched onto him and spread across his lower legs. Carl’s body felt like it was being squeezed from all sides to the point that his head started throbbing. Like an engine pumping on all cylinders, his entire
body felt like it was trapped in a blood pressure sleeve and whoever the nurse was just kept pumping. There was a loud groaning like old pipes moaning inside the walls, and the obscene wet sound of squishing slurping gelatin.
And then his legs began to burn where the blue creature touched him. Stinging like a jellyfish had brushed over him. Carl struggled, he couldn’t scream. His skin burned as she digested him. Carl’s body going limp. He could no longer fight what was happening to him. He had become now, a willing sacrifice, and discovered why… Nothing beats a jet 2 holiday.
